Φερομόνες Pherobank
Η πιο καλά μελετημένη κατηγορία φερομονών είναι οι σεξουαλικές φερομόνες, οι οποίες βρίσκουν πεδίο εφαρμογής στον έλεγχο και παρακολούθηση των πληθυσμών των λεπιδοπτέρων. Οι τεχνητά παραγώμενες αυτές ουσίες μιμούνται τη φυσική σεξουαλική ορμόνη που παράγει το θηλυκό προκειμένου να θέλξει το αρσενικό και να επιτευχθεί ζευγάρωμα. Εκμεταλλευόμενοι τη διαδικασία αυτή μπορούμε να έχουμε έγκυρες και έγκαιρες ενδείξεις των πληθυσμών των λεπιδοπτέρων, με αποτέλεσμα να μπορούμε να εφαρμόσουμε αποτελεσματικότερα προγράμματα ψεκασμών.
